Since his university years, JD Shapiro has written and directed two short films, deeply inspired by their stories and characters, though he felt neither suited a feature-length format. "Eva’s Comet," which he co-directed, was filmed in Spain and is primarily in English with Spanish subtitles. JD Shapiro is proud that both films were accepted into prestigious festivals across Spain and Europe, with "Eva’s Comet" earning multiple awards. (He submitted them to only one U.S. festival, Sundance, where neither was selected.)
